? The Last Glenbuchat Kilt

The above kilt and plaid was woven by James Hay of Weavers Cottage. James was the last weaver in Glenbuchat and died in 1917 at the age of 88.

The tartan is the Barclay tartan and may have been woven for James William Barclay the new Laird of Glenbuchat in 1901

The cloth feels rougher than modern Kilts but it has vibrant colours which have remained fresh despite the passage of time

The kilt was kindly donated to Glenbuchat by Sheena Hepburn of Ballater.
