Donside Floods

We may think that we are living in an age of climate change with resulting increased risk of flooding. The reports below, 1829 from the Reading Mercury and 1881 from the Aberdeen Journal, about flooding in Donside in those years shows the disastrous effect they had on life, limb and property.

Aug. 1829 was the time of the infamous Muckle Spate. A massive deluge over the Cairngorms caused extensive, serions flooding on Deeside, Donside, and Speyside. This event has been commerated in numerous books and articles.
