Broombrae Cottage

I am indebted to Murdoch Henderson for giving permission to reproduce the Murdoch Family Tree from Family Tree Maker and also the photographs of the Murdoch family on subsequent pages.

The third cottage on the left up the Belnacraig Hill, Broombrae was initially two cottages, Broombrae East and West, until unified probably in the 1980’s. At that time the owners also bought weavers cottage.

It is difficult to sort out the exact occupiers at Broombrae from the list of Belnacraig residents. The following entry in the 1918 Voters roll helps to determine the families who lived there at the time of the First World War. They also demonstrate how far the influence of the Great War penetrated even the distant community of Glenbuchat.

Note the Post Card of 1935 to Mrs Petterson at Upper Minmore where Mr William Paterson died. It is assumed that this is the same family and perhaps this was the house of his daughter or daughter in law

Another resident of Broombrae was Mrs Lorna McHardy whose address was noted in the death notice of her son Alexander McHardy. I can find no other record of her and perhaps she was just staying temporarily at Broombrae.
