123 Corriemore Lime Kiln

Many thanks to Dr Alan Carr for the above photos of the hidden lime kiln at Corriemore quarry at the Balloch in Glenbuchat.

The pictures above show:
1 – 3 Photos of the Corriemore lime Kiln 2021
4. Ken Cruickshank’s map indicating the Kiln at Corriemore
5. No 52 Corriemore Kiln with map reference
6. Modern map with situation of kiln.

The history of the limekilns of the area is explained in detail in Ken Cruickshank’s book ‘The Lime Kilns of Upper Donside

Ken mentions the presence and location of a kiln at Corriemore but there is no photograph.

The limekiln was hidden when the forestry plantation covered most of the quarry workings and the kiln.

Dr Alan Carr is a resident at Dulax in Glenbuchat and has crated a video and music relating to Corriemore

Alan writes:

“Inspired by my participation in the Dee Don Ceilidh Collective project - ‘Our Living Rivers and Glens’ I decided to make another attempt at creating something from one of my posts, this time the ruins of Corriemore Croft.
Titled ‘Cloak of Silence

The film is based on a reflection in prose written by my friend Peter Bell, with lever harp accompaniment. It includes the ruins of Corriemore, the lime quarry, lime kiln and the Balloch school.
