Castle Newe Red Indians
The children and friends at Newe Castle liked to dress up and play at Red Indians.
In a diary at New House written by Betine (Betty) one of Sir Charles Forbes were details about the organisation of the ‘tribe’
The First picture is a photo of some of the tribe with Betine, the leader, third from the left.
The second picture is a list of the tribe members along with their tribal names.
Betine is at the top, the chief, and her tribe name is Mishy Kayoshk - Grey Gull
If you look down the list near the bottom under Papooses and Squaws you will number 5 is Harry, named Ahmo – Little Bee. Harry is the smallest in the picture at the right of the line.
The third picture is an Indian costume that still kept at Newe House. You will notice that the badge in the middle is of a Little bee. Tis therefore was probably Harry’s tunic. The reason for its keeping was probably due to is tragic death on 13 June 1913 at age 7.
In the fourth picture is Harry’s gravestone to him in the Gardens of Newe House
In the following pages are some colour pictures taken of the tribe in action in the woods behind Newe Castle
